Grab Bars and Support Bars

One of the easiest ways to provide safety in the home is to install grab bars in the bathroom and support bars in other areas of the home. Most every bath remodel that we have completed has included some type of grab bar.

In the bathroom we usually recommend that a contrasting color be chosen so it is easily seen as well as some type of textured grip for slip resistance. There are a variety of colors, styles and finishes to choose from. We would be glad to help you select the bars most suitable to your situation.

In the bedroom or any other room that one finds the need to have some extra support, we have found Health Craft™ support poles to be superior in quality and functionality. They have a variety of styles to meet various needs.

Grab bars:

Jonathan’s Son, Inc has chosen Elcoma for their primary source of grab bars because of their quality, function and beauty as well as their compliance to meet the requirements of ASTM #F446-85 with 1-1/2" clearance and compliance with ANSI A117.1-1986 - Making Buildings Accessible to Handicapped.

Elcoma’s selection of grab bars includes stainless steel, brass or powder coated bars. The bars come in straight as well as angled bars and we can also order custom bars when needed.

Most all of Elcoma’s grab bars are now Wingit compatible making it easier and safer to install grab bars where there is no available backing.

“Custom Contrast” grab bars are now available in chrome bars with brass concealed flanges, brass bars with chrome concealed flanges, white bars with chrome concealed flanges, white bars with brass concealed flanges, almond bars with chrome concealed flanges.  Grab bars are available in smooth, knurled, and the ever popular Shur-Grip.

The Handi-Grip

Handi-Grip Portable Grab Bar

Handi-Grip portable grab bars for assistance anywhere in your home or while traveling. The strong suction adheres to most smooth surfaces. Because the Hand-Grip portable grab bars are not screwed into the surface, they are perfect for renters, traveling or visiting. You can easily attach a Handi-Grip portable grab bar to marble, glass or tile, surfaces that may be damaged by drilling holes.

Handi-grip portable grab bar consists of two suction cups with release levers and a grab bar. The suction housing and bar are high tensile plastic components, suction pads are natural rubber and all metal parts are stainless steel.

Due to the vacuum suction generated by the discs, the grab bar can only be attached to smooth and non-porous surfaces, which are pore- and steam-tight, dry and free of oils and grease. On rough or porous surfaces, the vacuum hold diminishes or does not exist at all. All tiles are not necessarily smooth and steam-tight, test your surface first. Using the grab bar under water or in extreme temperatures (such as a sauna) reduces the suction power. The minimum area for each suction cup for adhesion is 5”x’5”. The use of Handi-Grip portable grab bar is not recommended on dry wall.

The SuperPole™ System is an award winning modular support system designed for those requiring assistance with standing, transferring, or moving in bed.

Central to the system is a stylish floor-to-ceiling grab bar, which provides a secure structure that can be installed in minutes between a floor and ceiling.

The SuperBar™ is a horizontal pivoting and locking bar that mounts to the SuperPole™, suitable for clients who require moderate assistance to achieve small steps during transfers.

The SuperTrapeze™ is an offset trapeze handle that mounts to the SuperPole™. Suitable for clients who require moderate assistance to achieve a sitting position in bed, with all the benefits of the SuperPole™.

The P.T. Rail™ is a wall mounted support rail which promotes safe standing and transfers to and from a toilet. Combines an exceptionally solid feel, and an innovative offset rail design.

SECURE
P.T. Rail™ provides rigid support where it is needed - on one or both sides of the toilet.

NO WRIST STRAIN
Unlike vertically aligned dual rail systems, our unique offset rail design prevents wrist strain when using lower rail.

SAFE, OUT OF THE WAY STORAGE
our hinged models fold up to store out of the way, yet pulls down in a instant when needed. Smooth "fluid feel" hinge holds its position wherever you leave it - even halfway up - it will not inadvertently fall down causing impact injuries

FALL PREVENTION

Jonathan’s Son, Inc. thanks Health Craft™ for  the following information to help educate dealers, therapists, caregivers, and end users on fall prevention...

Wear clothes that will not interfere with walking and transferring; ie: long gowns are a hazard.

Wear properly fitted, low-heeled, non-slip footwear for walking and transferring.

Keep your place of residence clutter-free.

Make sure all areas of the home are properly lit, including hallways and stairways.

Keep floors dry, wiping up any spills immediately.

Remove all area rugs.

Keep all electrical wires and telephone cords secured safely out of pathways.

Have regular eyesight check-ups, and adjust your eyewear accordingly.

Engage in a doctor approved exercise program to increase strength and general mobility; normal aging brings with it changes that can affect your balance and walking.

Ensure your doctor and pharmacist are aware of all your medications, including non-prescription and herbal remedies as they can have interactions or side-effects which affect mobility and walking.

Be aware that some medications can affect your blood pressure.

When moving to a standing position from a lying position, it is important to rest in a sitting position, and again in a supported standing position prior to walking. This gives your blood pressure a chance to stabilize.

Have frequently used items stored in easily accessible places, to avoid reaching and climbing.

Ask for assistance with heavy work.

Proper placement / installation and use of support products will increase safety and independence.

Keep your pathways and steps free of ice, snow, newspapers and leaves.

We have access to more products than what we show on the web site. Often we secure new products to meet our client’s needs. If you don’t see what you are looking for, please contact us to see if we can help.
